Teaching Portfolio

I teach creative writing, translation, and critical inquiry as a single, holistic practice. More than ever before, I believe these humanistic skills are necessary in our technology-driven world.

Grounded in global literary traditions and a decolonized classroom ethos, my workshops blend technical precision with artistic intuition. Whether in a university workshop or an intensive craft seminar, I equip students to master narrative strategies, navigate cultural contexts, and build sustainable creative careers in their discipline or field of choice.

“Doing the translation project one page a week was really helpful in organizing and improving my translation as I went on… the first half of the semester dedicated to actually learning about and understanding the translation process, and the second half dedicated to finalizing our projects with our refined skills.”

Student, CRWT 3330 (Literary Translation Workshop)

“This course broadened my writing abilities, and I am glad that I chose this class… I felt like I got a better appreciation for the writing process, even as someone who has previously taken both fiction and poetry workshop classes.”

Student, CRWT 2301 (Introduction to Creative Writing)

“I really liked how well everything was laid out. I always knew what assignments we had to do and when everything was due. I also really liked how we did process assignments that led up to the essays because it really helped me learn to pace myself and work towards the essay rather than just write it out super fast.”

Student, RHET 2301 (Rhetoric)

“Jenny’s thoughtful assignments and her excellent feedback were truly so valuable. Also, the small class size allowed for deeper engagement and a very personalized experience. I found the curriculum to be very thorough and extremely useful. I would just wish for an advanced second level to this class so that I could continue working with Jenny!”

Student, Historical Fiction Workshop

“I loved the example articles, the opportunity to share my readings, receive critiques (Jenny’s were long, in-depth, and very helpful for future development of pieces), and read others’ writing. Jenny’s suggestions of where to submit and how to find places to submit writing are invaluable.”

Student, Magical Realism Workshop

“Jenny was the best part of the course (and I would definitely recommend taking courses with her). Her feedback and also suggestions for reading (both fiction and about craft) were excellent. I learned so much from her lessons, the weekly readings, and also from her responses to the weekly assignments.”
